Education System

I don't know what made me write about this but it was to pass time.
I was thinking about how i would live my life in Singapore and how the education system plays a part or contradictory affects young Singaporean such as myself.
As we all know now, its compulsory to master 10 years of education, of which the govt will make a canopy and subsidize every Singaporean parents expenditure on school fees, edusave or giro. I'd say this system is great, honestly, because the students can go for adventure camps or trips overseas and the government will handle a percentage of the package. But for that 10 years after, students will come out 16, with only an O'lvl certificate. Well now i do not think i is any good in any working firm to go far as our economy and business are what we call tertiary standard. So, in order to get an IDEAL future job, majority will op for tertiary education in JC's, Polytechnic, or the ITE, some will go to army first then enter to these campuses and some will pursue this education privately. But look, this system is alright, the cock up is about their ages. We can study till we are 30, 40 maybe even more. But I'd not want to study till that extend. If at a young age, one may not know what he wants in the future, he may find something and realize sometime later, but if that is being applied in this system and if he chooses something different, he could be wasting more time and money and maybe struggling for nothing of what he wants to do. If you don't understand, say for example, a boy, playful when young makes it through his O's with a marginal pass, then applies for engineering, but later throughout his course he decides to do law or something he finally likes? Could the point system be biased to only those who work hard from the O'lvl results. I mean you cant expect every kid to carry the pressure of burning the midnight oil 3-6 months prior to the O's. Same in Poly's and JC's and ITE, sometimes the pressure is to great for a percentage of students to handle, to sustain a GPA(Grade Point Average) of 3.0 to 4.0 with the numerous amount of subjects. Those who can do it, i applaud you. So about the ages, say at the end of of getting their certificate from their respective colleges, they will be 20, the boys will definitely go into the army for the next 2 years and some will pursue a degree or other qualification for about 3 to 4 years. They will be about 26 after that, and after may even go for a bachelor or master taking more time, or study with a company they sign in with.

Singapore's work force from now will be developed 30 years later, and this is a long time, 3 decades. In time many thing may change, and what we learn in the tertiary colleges may not be applied in the working world. But as education is critical, so is the ability to survive in a country like this, kids are pressure to just study like robots. Go to school, study, on the way back on the bus, read teachers notes, once at home, tuition or homework is the norm for most kids these days. They might be lacking on their youth and quality time with friends.

Moreover, this may affect many relationships with youngsters. Naturally, attraction during the youth days are plentiful, as youngsters have more time for each other and relationship in many are common. But if they where to only have time after all their studies have been done, then the next generation of babies will come in 30 years later. some might only have one or two, thus our population will be smaller.

Its only what i thought off, i don't know myself of the actual system, its what i just see.

Holidays

I'm currently in the midst of my school holidays and i must say i am having fun. Been out most of the time, mostly with the group and i enjoy them all the time. I, also did much better for my exams this semester and improved a little, and i'm happy about that. Was out most of my time during the holidays. Went to Malaysia and town last week. Had great fun in town with the group. Oh, I'll be going to LA next month from 12 oct to 19 oct. Can't wait for that trip.

youth rally

Went for the youth rally last night at Novena church. JJ encouraged the group of us to go, and i am glad the younger group of servers went. About 15 of us went and we all had fun singing and the boys had had this crazy idea to stand on the chairs and dance, and they did it, singing the songs which the band play. Not only where they active during the songs but i was very happy wen they participated actively during the benediction and exposure of the Eucharist. All of them knelt the whole way for about 25 minutes on the rough road and i felt they where deeply in prayer, which was good for their spiritual growth. I enjoyed last night with the boys and i hope more of this outings to come. To all those who went for the youth rally, hope you had fun, thanks for coming. :)


Parents left for Thailand today. All the way till Friday.
